Le Marche

The Marche is simply of a different beauty than Tuscany, Lago Maggiore or Lazio. What you will mostly encounter is farmland, wild mountains, dense forests and beautiful beaches.

There are two major wine-growing regions. The Conero — a majestic limestone mountain with its peak at 460 metres, right next to the coast — and Serrapetrona, a hidden valley, well protected by the mountains surrounding it. Both areas conjure up excellent wines and offer a wide variety of local produce.

The people are very, very friendly. They like to talk with you, and five minutes easily turns into half an hour. You can still get a cappuccino on a terrace for €1.20 and a meal for €12. The Marche also offers interesting cities like Urbino, Fano, Macerata, Cingoli and Ancona, as well as lovely seaside resorts like Sirolo, Porto Recanati and Senigallia.
